Gambling Threatens Businesses

It is a well known fact that the casino is the most high profile form of gambling. One writer says that a significant increase in crime is caused by casino gambling. He feels that society and the non-gamblers are the ones who pay for this crime and other costs that follow. This fact burdens the nearby populations and exceed their benefits.

Many feel that the funds that are used in the casinos is the same funds that are taken from local businesses.  There is also the increased amount of problem gamblers that grows as well.  As the bankruptcy rate continues to climb, it is the taxpayers who cover the cost.

Any community with a casino will see a rise in compulsive gamblers and even with programs directed to help those troubled gamblers, it is not a problem that is going away any time soon.  Many feel that a greater public awareness is needed about the fact that compulsive gambling is a problem that is nothing but serious. Increased public education and treatment options could help those heading in that direction before it is to late.
